When I initially came up with the idea for this, for tigersblood in 2010, I wanted it to be a ‘cultural platform’. I know. If anything, the wording is ambiguous, on purpose. It would be a magnet for performance, whether through a show, spoken word, or through a digital medium. All was supposed to be on board- screaming, strumming, crooning, with or without a guitar, whether digitized or through the glare of spoken word under a a yellow lamp. All these mediums of expression were to be balanced, here.
But I got consumed, and I did what came naturally to me: shows, and other things, mainly ‘working’. The desire to do spoken word crept in every season or so, and every once in a while I’d be invited to help curate these sort of events, but it never stayed consistent, just as the writings and publications on this site didn’t keep pace outside of the occasional glowing work from some brilliant outside help.
So it feels good to finally polish in some focus on a blurred vision. Announcing: EKSTASIS – an evening of words, spoken and shared, happening Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Moonbeans in Pharr, TX.
This evening will feature a warm embrace of individuals sharing their writings, including poetry, essays, stories, and more with their audience. For this edition, we are excited to have:
